Call for Artist

The 2024 Exhibit: Queerfish

Celebrating work by the LGBT Artist
Our upcoming show- Queerfish has 3 primary goals:
1)  Create a platform for Queer artist to share their experiences of alienation within the faith community.
2)  Build compassionate relationships that explore our differences and support Queer artist of faith.
3)  Foster loving and empathic dialogue to inform action within the church and beyond.

 
Artist Eligibility

The project is open to all Queer artist, both professional and amateur who have been, or belong to a Christian community, (see Exhibition Statement).  Artist must be aged 18 and over, and will not be discriminated against regardless of race,religious denomination, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or physical or mental disability.

Timeline: Exhibition runs October 13- 20, 2024
Venue:  Oct. 13-18,Kathwood Baptist Church/ Oct.19, Columbia Museum of Art/Oct. 20,St Martin's in the Fields Episcopal Church
Work Media: All media types (2D and 3D) welcome. Spoken word submissions would be performed at service of celebration TBA.
Work Size: 8' x 8' x 8" Max
Number of Entries: Each artist can submit up to eight unique pieces.
Entry Deadline:  Artist interested in being consider should submit the following materials by August 30, 2024 to queerfishsc@gmail.com
Entry Requirements:
1. Letter of Interest. The letter should be no longer than one  page in length and should explain the artist interest in the project.
2. Visual Artist.  Provide .JPEG images or a website that features at least 5 current works that showcase your artistry and medium.
3. Literary Artist. Submit 5 examples of your writing.
Art and literary work must be of a personal narrative of one's own experiences with being Queer in the church. (See Exhibition Statement)
Delivery:  Artwork must be delivered in person at a location to be anounced, between Oct 7- 9.  A annotated list must be included with the artwork listing image, artist name, and a brief description of the image stating the title, date, medium, size and value.
Exhibit or Event Ends: Oct 20, 2024
Pickup Artwork:  Artwork must be picked up in person, date to be announced.
Sales:  Artist will receive 100% of any sales made during the exhibition.  Sale transactions will be handle solely between the artist and the buyer.
Publicity: This exhibition will be marketed via social media (Facebook and Instagram) as well as email marketing.  We ask all participating artist and organizations to share the event once created with their email list as well as social media
